Global audit researchers and regulators to meet in Singapore

Top global researchers and regulators/standard setters in the highly important field of auditing will be meeting here in Singapore for a two-day international symposium on June 24 & 25 for the 16th Annual International Symposium on Audit Research (ISAR 2010).

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is hosting the important conference that will look into the issues of audit quality and the regulation of audit.

Leading global experts, including those from NTU’s Nanyang Business School, will be presenting papers based on their deep research in the critical area of audit in an increasing globalised corporate world.

Singapore’s Ms Juthika Ramanathan, Chief Executive of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) will be speaking in the first panel discussion on: “Is Regulation Necessary to Ensure High Audit Quality?”

Joining her in the panel discussion will be Mr James Gunn of the International Federation of Accountants and Mr Steven Maijoor of the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets.

The second panel session will look at "Managing Decisions in Auditing" with world-renowned psychologist, J. Frank Yates of the University of Michigan.

The third panel is on "Perspectives on Audit Education" with senior audit educators and researchers Bill Kinney (also on the advisory panel of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board; PCAOB) and Ira Solomon (winner of the American Accounting Association Outstanding Educator Award).

Twenty-five academic papers will be presented at the conference which brings together the top brains on the issue of audit research in the East and the West.

The International Symposium on Audit Research (ISAR) was formed in 1995 from a merger of two previous audit research symposia: the USC Audit Judgment Symposium and the Maastricht Audit Research Symposium. ISAR is now co-sponsored by four universities: University of Southern California (USA), Universiteit Maastricht (Netherlands), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), and the University of New South Wales (Australia). The Symposium is held annually. ISAR 2011 will be hosted by the University of Laval, Quebec City, Canada and ISAR 2012 will be hosted by Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan.
