SAF and NTU establish strategic partnership on continuing education

1. Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) officers who have completed the one-year Command and Staff Course (CSC) and a customised continuing education programme, can now be awarded the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Master's degree.  This joint Master's programme is the first initiative of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Continuing Education signed between the SAF and NTU.

2. The Master’s programme seeks to develop all-rounded leaders for the 3rd Generation SAF, with knowledge-based competencies to deal with the increasing complexities and challenges of the new security environment.  The programme has been designed to provide SAF officers with the opportunity to acquire new knowledge at key junctures of their careers.

3. Speaking at the MOU signing ceremony, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Desmond Kuek said, “This programme affirms the rigours of the SAF’s training and education system, enabling our people to be accredited with the highest academic standards which are benchmarked against the industry's exacting expectations and demands."

4. The ten-year MOU includes the design, conduct and accreditation of education programmes, faculty development and the exchange of professional knowledge and joint research in instruction, leadership, management, security and war studies. NTU President Dr Su Guaning said, “This continuing education programme will allow officers to balance their studies with their SAF duties and combine his or her experiential learning in the SAF with knowledge from the Master’s specialisation.”
