Meinhardt sets up Water Training Centre in Singapore in partnership with NTU
The Centre aims to nurture leadership talent for water management in Asia and Middle East regions
Meinhardt Group, a global multidisciplinary engineering consultancy, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and its Nanyang Business School (NBS) are partnering to set up a water training centre which aims to promote Singapore as a centre of excellence for the water industry. The Memorandum of Understanding will be signed on 4 July 2012 (4pm) during the Singapore International Water Week 2012.
The Meinhardt Water Training Centre will help drive professional competence in the industry through hands-on training and attachments, and create a networking platform to share ideas and best practices with both the public and private sector clients.
The curriculum will consist of short courses tailored for operators, middle management and senior executives who are keen to broaden their knowledge and sharpen their technical, commercial and managerial skills in the areas of environmental, water and waste-water management. The curriculum
will focus on the latest technologies and developments in environmental engineering, and will be integrated with field experience including visits to various water utilities in Singapore and overseas to get first-hand experience of world-class facilities.
Meinhardt’s multi-engineering capabilities and global experience in overseeing the entire project delivery cycle from feasibility studies, master planning, design to construction supervision and asset management will facilitate a more holistic knowledge transfer to clients, and impart the essential skills of integrating water and waste water management for a sustainable and long-term urban infrastructure planning.
The courses will be conducted by leading environmental practitioners from Meinhardt, top faculty from NBS and experts from PUB, Singapore’s national water agency. The courses will be introduced first in Singapore, and are expected to be extended over time to other parts of Asia Pacific and the Middle
East where Meinhardt has a strong presence.
Mr Omar Shahzad, Deputy CEO of Meinhardt Group, said that under the partnership with NTU/NBS, the long-term plan is to expand the programme to other engineering and business disciplines.
“This partnership MoU signals a closer collaboration between academia and industry and we are extremely honoured to have on board NTU, which is globally known for its strengths in engineering and business. Coupled with Meinhardt’s diverse industry experience, our training programmes will combine fundamental theory with real-world practice for our clients and other working professionals,” said Mr Shahzad.
NBS Interim Dean Gillian Yeo said: “Industry partnerships with top global organisations are an invaluable channel for us to contribute to the advance of leadership and management practice in the market place. We look forward to this opportunity to partner Meinhardt to nurture leaders for the global water industry.”
“This partnership to establish a water training centre signifies a meeting of minds between the academia and the industry on the importance of sharing water management knowledge. We are committed to growing the skills and expertise of water industry practitioners so as to build a vibrant, market-responsive and quality-driven workforce for Singapore’s water ecosystem,” said Mr Michael Toh, Director of Industry Development, PUB.
The Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony will be held at the Hibiscus Room 3705, Level 3, Marina Bay Sands Convention Center.
